The county town sits at the centre of everything, with Witham along the A12 and Maldon out by the Blackwater. Businesses here compete across a wide patch of towns and villages, so we make sure a website says where you work as clearly as what you do.
Britain's oldest recorded town and its neighbours, taking in Braintree, Halstead, Coggeshall and Tiptree. Plenty of good firms up here still run on word of mouth alone, which works right up until a competitor starts showing up first on Google.
The busiest corner of the county, from Southend-on-Sea and Leigh-on-Sea through Rayleigh and Hockley, out to Burnham-on-Crouch. Restaurants and cafés and trades here serve customers who decide on their phones, often while standing on the seafront.
Commuter country: Basildon, Brentwood and Harlow, with Billericay, Wickford and Epping close by. Customers here measure you against London polish, and a sharp local website lets a local firm hold its own.
